Root canal treatment in Mexico City, quick answers

These are the questions that usually come first: whether a root canal evaluation actually fits your tooth, which symptoms make a root canal more likely, when the visit is urgent, how pricing changes by tooth type, and what may still happen with the restoration after treatment.

  • Does a root canal evaluation fit my tooth?

Usually yes if your pain lingers, hot or cold sensitivity does not settle, the tooth has a deep filling or crack, there is swelling, or another dentist said the nerve may be involved. If the exam shows the tooth is really a filling, crown, or extraction case instead, we tell you before treatment starts.

  • Which warning signs point more toward a root canal?

Lingering pain, stronger hot-or-cold sensitivity, pain on biting, swelling, a bad taste from infection, or a darker tooth after trauma are common warning signs. They are not exclusive to a root canal, but they are strong reasons to get the tooth checked soon.

  • When does this become urgent?

If pain keeps you awake, there is a gum boil, localized swelling, or symptoms are getting worse quickly, request an urgent dental evaluation. If swelling spreads to the face or neck, breathing or swallowing is difficult, you cannot open your mouth normally, or fever comes with systemic illness, seek emergency medical care. If you can message us on WhatsApp , we can help triage the visit.

  • How does pricing change by tooth type?

Current root canal pricing starts at 4,999 MXN for a front tooth, 6,999 MXN for a premolar, and 9,999 MXN for a molar. The difference comes from canal count, access difficulty, and how much chewing force the tooth needs to handle afterward.

  • Will I probably need a crown after a root canal?

Often yes, especially for premolars and molars or when the tooth has already lost a lot of structure. If a crown becomes part of the plan, E-max crowns currently start at 10,699 MXN and zirconia at 12,299 MXN, but we first confirm whether the tooth actually needs one.

  • Do you speak English and where are you?

Yes. We support patients in English and Spanish, and the clinic is in Roma Sur, close to Condesa, Roma Norte, Narvarte, and Metro Chilpancingo. Open map .

When this really does sound like a root canal visit

The main question here is not just what a root canal costs. First you need to know whether your symptoms really point to the nerve inside the tooth, or whether the problem may be a filling, a crown case, a crack, or an urgent situation that needs a different path.

Tooth nerve pain icon for lingering hot or cold sensitivity.

Lingering pain

Hot or cold pain lingers longer than it should

When sensitivity is no longer a quick zing and keeps hanging around for minutes, the nerve may be inflamed or already involved.

Good fit if:

  • Coffee, hot food, or cold drinks trigger the pain

  • The sensation keeps going after the trigger is gone

  • It no longer feels like a small cavity issue

What this often points to: This pattern does not prove you need a root canal on its own, but it does justify a nerve-focused exam.

Tooth biting pain icon for root canal evaluation.

Pain on biting

Biting hurts, the tooth may be cracked, or the decay looks deep

This is the point where the real question is whether the tooth still resolves with a restoration, or whether the nerve now needs separate treatment.

Good fit if:

  • An older filling is failing or the tooth has fractured

  • You feel a clear jab when closing or chewing

  • You were told the cavity is close to the nerve

What this often points to: Sometimes the next step is a crown. Sometimes the root canal comes first. The difference is how much healthy tooth is left.

Swollen gum infection icon for urgent tooth evaluation.

Swelling or infection

There is swelling, a gum boil, a bad taste, or the pain already feels urgent

Once infection is draining or the area is swelling, it is no longer a small-toothache situation or something to leave for a routine visit.

Good fit if:

  • The gum looks swollen or develops a small boil

  • You notice a bad taste or pressure around the tooth

  • The pain is worsening or waking you up

What this often points to: If fever, stronger facial pain, or spreading swelling is part of the picture, it is worth seeking urgent dental care.

Dental file icon for a recent root canal diagnosis.

Recent diagnosis

Another dentist already told you a root canal may be needed

A lot of patients land here at this stage. They want to confirm whether the tooth is still savable, understand the real scope, and know whether extraction is actually on the table.

Good fit if:

  • You already have an X-ray or another treatment plan

  • You want a second opinion before committing

  • You also want to understand whether a crown is likely afterward

What this often points to: A focused evaluation is built exactly for that decision point.

Not sure? The first appointment is still a diagnosis visit. We tell you whether the tooth still looks like a good root canal candidate, whether a simpler restoration may be enough, or whether extraction makes more sense because too much tooth structure is already lost.

Root canal, crown, and extraction do not solve the same problem

A root canal treats what is happening inside the tooth. A crown protects what remains of the tooth afterward. Extraction enters the conversation when there is no predictable way to keep the tooth. That distinction should be clear before price or timing becomes the main topic.

Save the tooth

What a root canal actually does

  • Removes inflamed or infected pulp from inside the tooth
  • Cleans, disinfects, and seals the canals
  • Helps keep the natural tooth when it is still restorable

What it does not solve on its own

  • It does not fully rebuild the part of the tooth that is already missing
  • It does not automatically answer whether the tooth later needs a buildup, a crown, or both
  • It is not the right move if the remaining tooth structure no longer supports a predictable restoration
What may happen next
Dentist checking a tooth before deciding whether it needs a crown after root canal treatment.

When the conversation shifts to a crown

  • If the tooth has already lost a lot of structure
  • If the tooth takes a lot of chewing force
  • If the final restoration needs more long-term bite protection

When extraction may make more sense

  • If fracture or breakdown extends too far into the tooth
  • If there is not enough healthy structure left to restore predictably
  • If the imaging shows a poor long-term prognosis for saving the tooth

Front tooth, premolar, or molar changes the real scope

Root canal pricing already separates front teeth, premolars, and molars. The clinical reason behind that difference is what keeps the pricing from feeling like an arbitrary table.

Front tooth 45-60 min Lower complexity

Usually the simplest case and the lowest starting point

From 4,999 MXN

Front teeth often have a single canal and more direct access. That lowers chair time, though it still does not make the case automatic.

  • Usually fewer canals to locate and seal
  • Access tends to be straighter and easier to visualize
  • The crown decision depends heavily on how much structure remains

If the front tooth is badly fractured or already heavily restored, the plan may stop being the simplest version of the case.

What the root canal price includes and what is quoted separately

The per-tooth fee covers canal treatment for the diagnosed tooth. Root canal treatment currently ranges from 4,999 MXN to 9,999 MXN, and the total can change because of the exam, imaging, emergency visit, retreatment, or final restoration.

Quoted separately if the case needs it

These items do not always apply, but they are the details most likely to change the full cost after diagnosis.

Exam and imaging

Exam and imaging may range from 699 MXN to 4,499 MXN. Focused X-ray, panoramic imaging, or CBCT depend on the clinical question.

Emergency visit

If there is severe pain or swelling, the emergency appointment starts from 1,699 MXN and may change the visit sequence.

Retreatment

A previous root canal, older materials, posts, or complex anatomy are quoted after the tooth and imaging have been reviewed.

Final restoration

This may be a filling (1,499 MXN to 1,999 MXN), core buildup (1,999 MXN), post/core, or crown depending on remaining structure.

Crown timing and travel

Crowns start from 10,699 MXN. If you are traveling, we clarify what should be sealed before leaving Mexico City and what can be followed with your dentist at home.

Inside the root canal treatment fee

This is the canal treatment for the diagnosed tooth, not necessarily the full final plan for the tooth.

Confirmed tooth type

The price changes for front teeth, premolars, and molars because canal anatomy and complexity are not the same.

Local anesthesia

Local anesthesia is used to help keep treatment comfortable while the canals are cleaned, shaped, and sealed.

Cleaning, shaping, and sealing

Includes the endodontic work on the diagnosed tooth to remove infected or inflamed tissue and seal the canals.

Temporary restoration

Closes the access short term and protects the tooth until the final restoration is decided or placed.

These are clinic-wide reviews, not all from root canal visits, but they matter here because they reflect what this decision usually depends on most: clear explanations, calm care, and a team that does not guess its way through the plan.

Meet the team involved when the tooth nerve may be part of the problem

When the tooth nerve may be involved, the clinical lead starts with the endodontist. But a root canal visit is rarely understood well unless you also talk about restoration, follow-up, and the backup plan if the tooth cannot be predictably saved.

How a root canal visit usually moves forward

The key here is separating three stages that often get blurred together: diagnosis, treatment, and the restoration that may follow. First we confirm whether a root canal is really the right call. Then we treat the tooth if it is. After that, we define how the tooth should be protected.

  1. 1) Tell us what is going on

Tell us whether the pain is from hot or cold, while biting, whether there is swelling, or whether another dentist already gave you a diagnosis. That helps us separate a routine visit from something more urgent.

  2. 2) Diagnosis and imaging first

We evaluate the tooth, the bite, and the imaging needed to understand whether the problem is in the nerve, the tooth structure, or both.

  3. 3) Confirm whether the tooth is still worth saving

We explain whether the tooth still looks like a root canal case, whether pricing fits a front tooth, premolar, or molar, and whether a crown or extraction also needs to enter the plan.

  4. 4) Treat the tooth when it's indicated

If the root canal is the right next step, we numb the area, clean and seal the canals, and leave the tooth protected provisionally while the final restoration plan is being finished.

  5. 5) Plan the final protection

After the root canal, we review sensitivity, the bite, and the remaining tooth structure to decide whether the tooth can stay with a simpler restoration or should move to a crown. This is where we close the full plan, not just the urgent part.

Common questions about root canal treatment in Mexico City

The first questions are the real decision points: whether a root canal evaluation fits your tooth, when the symptoms really do sound like a root canal, when the plan may shift to a crown or extraction, and only then pricing, timing, and language support.

Usually yes. A root canal evaluation is built for teeth with lingering pain, stronger temperature sensitivity, pain on biting, swelling, deep decay, cracks, or a recent diagnosis that the nerve may be involved. The first visit is still a diagnosis visit: sometimes the final plan is a root canal, and sometimes it shifts to a filling, a crown, or an extraction.
